YMCA Camp Knickerbocker
Camp Knickerbocker (or, more commonly known as “Camp K”) sits on a freshwater lake in Boothbay, Maine. With access to the water in three different locations, we spend lots of time at the waterfront! Our DAY CAMP is split into categories:
Explorers: This group is our campers ages 5/6 years old. With ratios kept low, this group travels as one pod with staff. They try all that camp has to offer (that is safe for them!) such as swimming, hiking, nature exploration, sports, tennis, crafts, gardening, nutrition, dance exercise, and more! Each pod has a lead counselor with supporting staff. During the day, staff are allowed to take blocks of time to plan their own activities if they like. Field trips are taken to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Barret Park in the harbor, and local land trusts.
Pathways: These campers aged 7 years and older. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and will travel with designated staff persons. Programs include archery, crafts, swimming, boating, STEM, hiking, nature exploration, outdoor living skills, and more! Field trips will be taken to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Barret Park in the harbor, and any other trip that might crop up during the summer. Staff will be responsible to run the activity in each program, but something will be planned for each day by the Program Director.
Adventure Camps: These camps are targeted on specific activities and interests. The summer of 2023 will find the following options for our campers: Baldwin Center Ropes Course Adventure, Magic & Teamwork Adventure, Jr. Naturalist Camp, Teen Adventure, and Hiking Adventure. Adventure Camp is slated for 4 staff members, ranging from lifeguards to avid hikers.
Specialty Camps: These camps are targeted on specific activities and interests. The summer of 2023 will find the following options for our campers: Wizarding World Specialty, Outdoor Cooking Camps, Emergency Responder Camps, Survivor & Teen Survivor Camps, and Create & Build Camp. Specialty Camps is slated for 4 staff members, ranging from folks with interest in the outdoors and with STEAM related focuses.
As always, our staff is readily engaged in providing an educational environment that aligns with the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
