Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership

  • Overnight Camp
  • Co-ed, Family
  • 1 Week, 2 Weeks, Special Sessions

Sitting 12 miles off the coast of Rockland, Maine, the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership is an ideal setting for discovering what it takes to make a difference in the world – as students, scientists, citizens, and leaders. Our island campus allows you to unplug and immerse yourself in the natural world while becoming an integral part of our off-the-grid, sustainable island community. You will leave our programs with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Hurricane Island one-week middle school programs are introductory explorations to everything we have to offer. Programs allow students to discover the island through engaging, hands-on experiences and support students to ask questions and follow their interests throughout the week. Students will learn from and work alongside our island teams in a fun-filled environment as they become integral members of our community.

Hurricane Island’s one- and two-week high school programs take student knowledge and understanding of the world around them to the next level. Students evolve as leaders, communicators, and collaborators as they collect data and develop solutions to real challenges. Group and personal development are meshed with hands-on interaction with topics specific to each course and all programs culminate in community presentations of student work.
